Cell Specialization- A cell that performs a function for a larger organ or tissue.

Examples:

Type of Cell

Shape (Structure)

Function

Muscle

Elongated and tapered on either end

Move parts of the body

Skin

Flat and thin,

Fit closely together to form a continuous protective layer

Nerve

Cord-like bundles of fibers that connect to parts of the body

To signal impulese to parts of the body mainly the brain

Blood

Thin, disc-like with a little dent in the middle

Carries oxygen in the bloodstream

Bone

Thick and white

To provide support

Why does cell specialization happen?
Cell specialization happens because they are many forms of life and therefore have many levels in which they differentiate. Every part of a living thing needs cells that operate different functions in order to survive.

Complexity of Cell Specialization
Complexity is the level of difficulty
Example:

First level
Protoplasmatic , protozoa , unicellular organisms

Second level
Cellular and sponges

Third level
Tissue and jellyfish. On this level they start to form impulse and nerve systems but still in their early stages.

Fourth level
Worms. On this level they start to have organs but no brain.

Fifth level
Humans, apes and bear are at this level because they have veins, brain, organs, hearts, lungs and more
